Financial Mechanism

H.F.R.I. was established in 2016 with the aim of promoting research and innovation, in the framework of the national strategy for research and innovation. The Foundation supports unrestricted research and the scientific capacity of the country, having scientific quality and excellence as a unique criterion, through the financing of research projects, scholarships, the acquisition of valuable research equipment as well as actions to connect science with society and emblematic actions.

The General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI) is a modern public service assigned with the task of defining, as well as coordinating the implementation of, the national policy for Research, Technological Development and Innovation. It supports the activities of research and industry bodies through competitive research programs highlighting economic performance and a socially fair allocation of outcomes. Furthermore, it supervises research and technology bodies, which provide local communities with the skills necessary for producing knowledge and boosting innovation. GSRT actively follows EU and international developments in the field of RDI and represents the country to the EU and International Organizations within its competence.

The current project is financed by the 2nd Call for H.F.R.I. Research Projects to Support Post-Doctoral Researchers.

The action aims to support selected research projects of high scientific calibre and excellence, with Post-Doctoral Researchers (PR) as Principal Investigators (PI). The action has been designed to support Post-Doctoral Researchers so that they may direct the implementation of a research project as Principal Investigators and create their own independent Research Team. The ultimate aim of the action is to formulate new prospects for the scientific and professional course of the PR-PIs and the members of the Research Team (RT) of the project, as well as to create suitable conditions to develop existing scientists’ potential in the country and attract young scientists working abroad.
